Day 1: Bagan Arrival – Sightseeing

Arrive in Bagan in the morning. Bagan is Myanmar’s archaeological wonderland of over 3,000 ancient temples. Now we start the journey to the beautiful Shwezigon Pagoda with the interesting knowledge of Burmese Buddhism.  Follow up is a visit to Ananda Temple (one of the finest, largest and best preserved in Old Bagan). Along the way we stop by some surrounding temples. Another highlight of the day is the panoramic sunset view from the second highest pagoda of Bagan, the Shwe Sandaw Pagoda.

Day 2: Bagan Discovery

After breakfast, we start the day at Nyaung U Market where you have great chance to meet and talk with the friendly locals. Then we visit Nan Paya Pagoda, one of the biggest temple of Bagan. On this day, we enjoy the unique experience of a horse-cart ride, head to Minkaba Gubyaukyi Temple, and continue your day to Manuha Temple. The last stop for this sightseeing day is a local lacquer ware workshop and learn how this traditional piece of art is made.

Day 3: Bagan – Salay – Mt. Popa – Bagan

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive to Salay, an old and small town about 15km south of Bagan. Along the way we pass by Chauk, explore the colorful morning market. This is a great place for local interaction and photos. Continue half an hour drive to Sale (Sa-lay), a sleepy town where various colonial buildings, monasteries and pagodas can be seen. While in the town, we visit Salay Youk Sone Monastery, a cultural heritage site and see its exquisite wooden carvings.
In the afternoon, we reach Mount Popa, an extinct volcano standing 1518 meters high. The site is believed to be home to the ancient Burmese animist spirits. After 777 steps with bare feet to Popa Kalat Monastery at the top, we enjoy the panoramic view of Popa National Park.

Day 4: Bagan – Pakokku – Bagan

After breakfast, leave Bagan in the morning and drive to Pakokku – a peaceful town famous as a tobacco trading center and weaving products. While in Pakokku, we start visiting the local market and the huge things from the local handy crafts, traditional thanakha, ingredients to the seasonal vegetables… Along the way we go to the workshops of the slippers which are used widely in Myanmar. After your own lunch, we drive along the Irrawaddy River, head back to Bagan. Depending on your travel time, the locals may be planting, harvesting or processing the crops and there are plenty of chances to stop and interact with the local farmers. Rest of the day is your own leisure.

Day 5: Bagan – Departure

Enjoy your time at leisure before pick-up and transfer for your onward flights.
