How far should I book the tour in advance with Burma Travel?

It is hard to say how far you should book your trip. But it would be the best if you can book the trip right when your international flights are ready. If your travel date is in PEAK SEASON, flights, hotels will be fully booked very soon, especially good hotels and beach hotels.
Therefore, we highly recommend you to reserve the services as soon as possible to avoid fully booking and disappointment. We do not reserve any services until receiving your booking and deposit.

Should I bring cash or Traveler’s checks in Myanmar?

In Myanmar the most popular payment method is in cash, therefore the best way is to bring along cash.
Now you also can use credit cards to pay at big hotels and shopping malls, but not at the small ones – they just accept cash.
Traveler’s checks is not popular and not accepted here.

What is the time zone in Myanmar?

Myanmar runs at GMT+6.5
Government offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday
Post offices are open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday
Restaurants are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. or later
Shops are open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. or later

Do I need a visa/passport to travel in Myanmar?

Passport is a must when you travel abroad, not only Myanmar.
Please be informed that VISA to Myanmar is required to almost all visitors. You can apply for Myanmar Visa at any Myanmar embassies and Consulates abroad. Should you require a sponsor letter, we can provide it for free or you can apply for E-visa at: http://evisa.moip.gov.mm/

You will need the following before you apply:
– Your passport validity must have at least (6) months.
– You have to upload one COLOR PHOTO (4.8 cm X 3.8 cm) taking during last (3) months.
– Visa, Master, American Express or JCB credit cards for the payment of USD50.00.
– Length of stay is (28) days from the date of arrival in Myanmar.
– The visa will valid for 3 months since the day you apply for it. So don’t apply it too early.
Visas are exempted for the citizens of the countries listed below:
– Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand (14 days)
– Singapore (30 days)

Can I use US dollars or do I need local currency?

You should bring BRAND NEW USD NOTES (no fold or any mark on it) and exchange into local currencies at airports/hotels. On your arrival, our people will help you with money exchange for your personal expenses there.
You can also withdraw money from ATMs. Debit/Credit cards are also accepted at hotels/restaurants in big cities.
Note: Euro is not popular so don’t bring them.

Banknotes – Frequently Used: K1, K5, K10, K20, K50, K100, K200, K500, K1000, K5000, K10000.
Exchange rate: USD1 ~ MMK 1,350
